Fair Lawn Police Department
Parking Permit Information

Borough Ordinance requires all vehicles that are parked at either of the train station lots, the DPW/commuter bus parking lot, or Eldorado Village, Knollcroft Gardens, Bergen Properties, Fair Lawn Park Estates, or Hollow Run parking areas display a valid permit for the specific parking area.  (For the DPW/commuter bus parking lot only, daily parking meters can be used, which do not require a permit)

The parking lots/areas are checked every weekday (excluding holidays) and violators are ticketed.  All permits expire on December 31 and must be renewed annually.  The current permit fee schedule, including the quarterly pro-rated fees, are listed below.  The purchase of a parking permit does not guarantee an available parking space.  Spaces are on a first come, first served basis.  People wishing to renew a permit can do it in two ways.  The application form could be printed from your home computer, completed at your convenience, and mailed with a self addressed-stamped envelope with a check for the appropriate fee (made out to The Borough of Fair Lawn) to the Fair Lawn Police Department Records Bureau (8-01 Fair Lawn Avenue, Fair Lawn, NJ  07410). Your parking permit would then be issued and mailed to you.

If you need a parking permit and it is the first time you are purchasing one, you will need to apply in person with your driver's license, vehicle registration, and up-to-date identification that shows your correct address.  (For apartment parking areas, please bring a copy of your lease.)  If you must apply in person, the form could be printed out on a home computer and completed before you get to the municipal building.  In person permit sales are conducted Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (excluding holidays) at the Fair Lawn Police Department's Records Bureau.

Yearly Fees are pro-rated after April 1

The following applies to Erie parking permits:

1.  The permit must be hung from the rear view mirror of the vehicle, colored side facing the front windshield.

2.  All summonses issued for no permit must be resolved in court, even if a permit had been issued.  If you forget to hang your permit, you will receive a summons and you must go to court!!!!

3.  The permits are not “vehicle specific”.  The permit is valid for any car that you use.  Just hang your permit in whatever car you’re using for the day.  The permit is for your use only.  Do not lend your permit to anyone for anyreason.  Violators will receive a summons, have their permit revoked, and be prohibited from obtaining permits in the future.

4.  If your permit is lost or stolen, you’ll need to report it as such and purchase a new permit.  There are no free replacement permits.

5.  The purchase of permit does not guarantee you an available space.  Spaces are first come, first served.

6.  This permit does not give you permission to park in the lot from 2 a.m. to 5. a.m.  Should your vehicle need to be in the lot overnight, please contact the overnight parking hotline at 201-794-5399 prior to 2 a.m.

Please do not call the police department’s emergency telephone numbers or 9-1-1 with Erie parking permit questions.  Questions about parking permits can be directed to the Fair Lawn Police Record’s Bureau at 201-794-5418 or 5419, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
