In 2007, the Fair
Lawn Police Department participated in the nationwide Click It or Ticket Mobilization,
that ran from the end of May to early June, to increase
enforcement of the State's safety belt laws. The
goal of the effort was to boost the State's 80% safety belt use rate and
reduce fatalities with a special emphasis on young adults.
The Fair Lawn Police Department dedicated over 91 hours (most of which
was paid for from a grant from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety)
to "Click It or Ticket" and assigned officers specifically to
seat belt enforcement. During the two week period, the officers of
the Fair Lawn Police Department wrote 369 summonses (99 seatbelt/child
restraint and 270 others) made
10 arrests (warrants, drugs,
assault, and
false information to a police officer) and impounded 4 vehicles.
More significantly though, seat belt usage increased 7%on Broadway and
1% on Maple Avenue.
So, the next time you get into a vehicle, remember to "Click
