Cops in Shops - 03/26/2007 Cops in Shops is a community partnership between local retailers and law enforcement designed to deter minors from attempting to purchase alcohol and for adults who purchase alcohol for minors. Undercover police officers are assigned to participating retail locations; one undercover officer works inside the store while a second officer is positioned outside the establishment to apprehend adults who buy and give alcohol to minors. Past enforcement activities have focused on retailers that sold alcohol to minors. Cops in Shops places the focus on preventing youth attempting to purchase alcohol. The Cops in Shops program is funded by a federal grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) as administered through the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety - Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. On March 26, 2007, the Fair Lawn Police Department was awarded a "Cops in Shops" grant. The amount of the grant was $4,000.00. The total "Cops in Shops" grant awards to date is $21,585.92.

Click It or Ticket - 2006 The "Click It or Ticket" Mobilization for 2006 plays a critical role in the effort to keep people safe on our nation’s roads and highways. From May 22 - June 4, 2006, law enforcement agencies in New Jersey and nationwide are conducting Click It or Ticket campaigns that incorporate zero-tolerance enforcement of safety belt laws with paid advertising and the support of government agencies, local coalitions and school officials to increase safety belt use and defend against one of the greatest threats to us all — serious injury or death in traffic crashes. Click It or Ticket is a high-publicity law enforcement effort that gives people more of a reason to buckle up — the increased threat of a traffic ticket. Most people buckle up for safety. But for some people, it is the threat of the ticket that spurs them to put on a safety belt. In Click It or Ticket programs, law enforcement agencies are being asked to mobilize to focus on safety belt violations and publicize the stepped-up effort through news media and advertising. It is the two-pronged approach that makes these campaigns powerful: Not only are tickets issued to unbelted motorists, but the surrounding publicity ensures that people know they are more likely to get a ticket. On April 28, 2006, the Fair Lawn Police Department was awarded a $4,000 grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety for safety belt enforcement. This is the 2nd year that the F.L.P.D. has been awarded this grant. Total Click It or Ticket grant awards to date is $8,000.00. See how we did in 2006...... |
