On October 1, 2005, the
F.L.P.D. Turns 75 Years Old 

On Tuesday, October 25, 2005, the Fair Lawn Police Department hosted a 75th Anniversary "Open House" from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building.  There were be displays of items and photos reflecting the history of the department and it's evolution into the new millennium.

The F.L.P.D. is assembling an all-time roster by badge number.  If you are aware of any corrections or additions, please e-mail

To the Honorable Mayor & Council, Borough of Fair Lawn, Bergen County, New Jersey.

Gentlemen:

We the undersigned taxpayers and property owners, of the Borough of Fair Lawn, Bergen County, New Jersey, do hereby petition your honorable body to create and establish a paid "Police Department" to prevent crime and apprehend violators of the laws of this Borough, County, and State. 

The residents petitioned the Borough Council to establish a full time, paid police force.  The petition is 22 pages long and contains 316 signatures.  With the appointment of Michael Vanore as Fair Lawn's first Chief of Police on October 1, 1930, the F.L.P.D. was born.
