Fair Lawn Chief of Police Erik Rose and the Fair
Lawn Police Department, Fair Lawn PBA #67,
and the Borough of Fair Lawn sponsored a
dedication ceremony for the
memorial statue which was created to honor Officer Mary
Ann Collura who was killed in the line of duty on April 17, 2003.
The ceremony was held on Saturday, April 15,
2006, at 3:00 p.m.
The ceremony was held
in front of the Fair Lawn Municipal Building (8-01 Fair Lawn
Avenue, Fair Lawn).
Officer Mary Ann Collura was an 18-year veteran of the Fair Lawn
Police Department and the department’s first female police officer.
She was fatally shot by a drug dealer after coming to the aid of a
Clifton, N.J. police officer who had chased the drug dealer into
Fair Lawn. This statue
depicts Officer Collura presenting glow sticks to two children who
are dressed for Halloween. In 1999, Officer Collura started a
program which distributed glow sticks to children in order to make
them visible to vehicular traffic. This bronze statue will inspire
young and old alike for years to come.
